Polyethylene glycol 6000 (Usp)
- PEG is made from ethylene glycol, which is the main antifreeze material.
When ethylene glycol (molar mass 62.07) is polymerized, it reacts with itself (in water) and various products are produced that have different numbers of units of EG. All of these products are known as PEGs.
The general molecular formula of this substance is H (OCH2CH2) nOH, which n indicates the number of EG units.
Grades 400, 1000, 2000, 4000 and 6000 are popular and widely used grades of this material.
